Bail for Charles “Chuck” Shumard was revoked following the jury’s finding and the defendant was remanded into the custody of the Clinton County Jail to await an October 24 sentencing hearing.

Shumard was arrested in July 2016 on the two Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a family member under the age of 18 and his bail was set at $25,000.

He was freed a few days later after posting $2,500 cash bond, with the instruction of having no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.

The jury in the case was seated Wednesday with the prosecution delivering its case until after 4:30 that afternoon. The trial resumed Thursday morning and the defense began arguing its case following lunch.

The jury was handed the case to begin deliberations at 3:45 p.m. Thursday and returned its guilty verdicts on the Class 2 felonies at 6:45 p.m.

A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered to be completed before the October sentencing. Shumard could face between 2 and 7 years in prison on each count, or even up to 4-years probation.
