CLAY COUNTY — Law enforcement is warning area residents to be aware of another phone scam, this one offers to reduce your interest rates or asks other financial type questions.

According to the Flora Police Department, they have been made aware of several people in the area receiving calls where the caller is using a technology called “Spoofing”, which basically allows the scammer to have their phone number show up as a “spoofed” number of their choice on your caller ID.

Residents are urged to use extra caution and verify who you are speaking with, and never give out you personal information over the phone.

If you suspect you could be getting spoofed, tell the caller you will call the business back another time and speak with somebody you know.

Police Chief John Nicholson says that it’s the day of the internet and scammers, so double and triple check for your own safety.
