MACON COUNTY — The Macon County Sheriff’s deputy arrested over the weekend for allegedly shooting at his wife as she ran from their home and then holding police in a nine-hour armed standoff was the victim two years ago in a case where a man threatened to ruin his life and his marriage.
In 2015, Deputy Markes Rodgers reportedly arrested Justin L. Cochran for driving under the influence, reckless driving and fleeing/eluding police.
The Herald & Review reports that after Cochran called his wife during the intake process at the jail, he told Rodgers, “You just ruined my life and destroyed my marriage. I’m going to ruin yours, and I’m going to ruin your life.”
A few weeks later, Rodgers’ wife reportedly received a letter at their home from someone claiming to be a Macon County correctional officer and claiming Rodgers’ was having an affair with a female employee at the sheriff’s office.
That letter was the first of three pieces of mail sent by Cochran to Mrs. Rodgers indicating her husband was having an affair.
The second letter contained a used pair of pink panties Cochran had taken from a relative and had a pair of lipstick lip prints on the envelope rather than a return address.
Cochran was arrested a few days later and was ultimately convicted of harassing a witness.
Markes Rodgers is now being held in the Christian County Jail with bail set at $500,000. He’s charged with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly firing a weapon at his wife as she ran from their home during a domestic dispute.
He’s also alleged to have held off police in a nine-hour armed standoff before he surrendered. He’s being held in the Christian County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
