SANDOVAL — An 18-year-old Sandoval High School Senior has been charged in Marion County Court with Class 3 felony aggravated battery in a public place and Class 3 felony battery of a school employee stemming from a September 21 fight in class.

Preston Slone is accused of striking a 15-year-old fellow student after the student asked Slone to lower his voice when he was speaking out of turn.

The fight started in the classroom when Slone allegedly struck the other student. It then moved out into the hallway where Slone reportedly grabbed Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison as she tried to break up the fight.

Teacher Jarad Damaman came downstairs at that time and took Slone to the floor. Garrison was also knocked to the floor in the scuffle.

Garrison and Damaman were able to restrain Slone until he calmed down. He then taken to the office to await Sandoval police.

No injuries were reported.

Slone was later released to his parents with a notice to appear in court October 31st.
