BOND COUNTY — A 40-year-old Granite City man accused of kidnapping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her infant son has been sentenced in Bond County Court to 45 years in prison on a separate sex abuse case.

Christopher Derleth was sentenced Friday on counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a female child and perjury in Bond County. The girl’s identity has not been released.
According to the Belleville News-Democrat, as of Tuesday, Derleth’s kidnapping case in Madison County still was pending.
He is charged there with aggravated kidnapping of a child with an intellectual disability. He’s accused of taking his 13-year-old stepdaughter Katherine and her infant son from a foster home in September 2016, and fleeing with them to West Virginia.
Derleth remained on the run with the two children for about a week before they were discovered off the road, tucked away and camping in tents.
Authorities have not said if Derleth is the father of Katherine’s baby.
As of Tuesday, Derleth was still being held in the Madison County Jail, where he has been since he was extradited from West Virginia in September 2016.
