WAMAC — The Centralia Fire Protection District responded to a call early Friday morning in the 300 block of Sanders in Wamac.
The fire was initially reported to be at 615 Wabash with possible occupants inside. But when firefighters arrived they discovered the fire was actually at a home on Sanders.
Firefighters found the front of the home fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. They quickly knocked down the flames. The home was searched and no victims were found inside. No injuries were reported.
The home reportedly suffered heavy damage to the front porch, and heat and smoke damage was reported through the rest of the residence.
Centralia Fire Protection, along with Wamac police and Centralia police responded to the scene. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
