Residents, businesses warned of scam claiming SCHS connection

SALEM — The Salem Chamber of Commerce is alerting residents to a local scam in the area.

People have received emails from a person claiming to be working on the upcoming basketball/winter sports schedule cards for Salem Community High School.

The email asks if the person or business would like to be a sponsor of the pocket sized schedule cards saying they will be in full color, will include winter sports, and the sponsors ad will be on all 3,000 cards if they participate.

The email promises that as a sponsor the recipient will receive 500 cards to give out. They say they need to sell two ads, one for the front and one for the back. The cost of one ad is $300, or $550 for both the front and back.

People and businesses should be aware that the high school has no affiliation with the person in the email and that they do not ask for sponsors for their pocket schedules.
