WAYNE CITY, Ill. — A Friday night fire in the 500 block of Walnut Street in Wayne City claimed the life of a 48-year-old Wayne City woman.

According to officials, Gina Breeze was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner. The fire is being blamed on a heat lamp placed under the house in an attempt to thaw frozen pipes.

It’s believed the unattended lamp caused a fire under the home that spread into the living quarters.

When Wayne City firefighters arrived on scene around 11 p.m. the house was already ablaze.

There were no other occupants in the home at the time of the fire. Single digit temperatures with wind chill of minus 3 hampered firefighters efforts to fight the blaze.

No other injuries were reported.
