MARION COUNTY — Three Salem residents are in the Marion County Jail after an investigation reportedly connected them to firearms taken during a vehicle burglary earlier this week.

An off-duty Marion County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly noticed a car stuck and abandoned in a field off Bottom Road in rural Iuka.

After the vehicle was towed, 18-year-old Kaylee Hanks inquired about having it released. But after some questioning deputies recovered three firearms reported as stolen from a vehicle in Salem.

On Thursday night deputies ultimately arrested Hanks, 18-year-old Donald Fairchild, and 22-year-old John Phillips on charges stemming from the investigation.

Bail for Hanks was set at $5,000 Friday after she was formally charged in Marion County Court with Class 2 felony burglary. She is prohibited from having contact with Fairchild, Phillips, the alleged victims of the burglary, or their residences.

Bail for Phillips was set a $10,000 after he was formally charged with Class 2 felony possession of a stolen firearm.

Bail for Fairchild was set at $25,000 after he was formally charged with Class 2 felony possession of a stolen firearm and Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Fairchild was sentenced last week in Marion County Court to 4-years probation after he pleaded guilty to one of three Class 2 felony burglary charges.

In addition to the weapons charges, Phillips was also arrested on an outstanding Clinton County felony warrant. Fairchild was also arrested for a violation of an order of protection filed in 2016 on behalf of Kaylee Hanks.
