DU QUOIN — Du Quoin Police arrested a 17-year-old juvenile for disorderly conduct – a Class 4 felony – after police were notified about a post on social media Sunday morning.

The juvenile was lodged in a juvenile detention center. Police continue to investigate.

Officials say the social media post was vague and referred to the Sandy Hook shooting that happened in December of 2012 in Newton, Connecticut.

Twenty-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and six staff members before taking his own life.

Police were on the Du Quoin High School campus Monday to make sure nothing happened. Classes were held as normal.

Du Quoin District 300 officials notified parents and guardians Sunday afternoon about the situation saying the matter is being handled by law enforcement and the Perry County State’s Attorney’s office.
