FAYETTE COUNTY — Bail has been set at $500,000 each for two California men arrested when more than 360 pounds of cannabis was reportedly found in the vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in Fayette County.

Illinois State Police arrested 34-year-old Christian Peralta-Martinez and his 33-year-old passenger Shawn Hulsey after they were stopped for improper lane usage and a K-9 officer alerted on their vehicle.

Both men are charged with manufacture with the intent to deliver more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, and trafficking of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis – both Class X felonies, along with possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis – a Class 1 felony.

Hulsey was appointed a public defender and is scheduled for an April 2, preliminary hearing.

Due to a language barrier, Peralta-Martinez is scheduled for a bond hearing Friday with an interpreter to be present.

According to Fayette County State’s Attorney Josh Morrison, this is the largest cannabis seizure he has seen in his career.
