FRANKLIN COUNTY — A Decatur man was taken to the Franklin County Jail Friday on an arrest warrant out of Macon County for a weapons offense after leading several local law enforcement agencies and Illinois State Police on a vehicle and foot chase that started around 8:45 Thursday night

north of West Frankfort continuing into Friday morning in Benton.

Benton Police Chief Kyle Melvin says 37-year-old Philip Johsu was finally captured by police around 7:45 Friday morning near the 1000 block of South McLeansboro Street.

Melvin says during Joshu’s arrest, a handbag was recovered. In it was ammunition and a significant amount of narcotics. Approximately two pounds of suspected methamphetamine commonly referred to as “Ice”, a half-pound of marijuana, 30 grams of mushrooms and suspected LSD was seized. Melvin says the meth has an approximate street value of $80,000.

Melvin added an Ameren employee reported finding a handgun just off Route 37 south of Benton. This was a .45 caliber pistol later determined to be stolen out of Christian County, Illinois.

Melvin says the investigation continues. Further charges are pending at this time.
