TRENTON, Ill. — A student threat of a school shooting Thursday apparently kept many students home Friday as attendance was down Friday morning at Wesclin High School.

Authorities say a student reportedly made a threat during class on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the school calling the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

The student was not arrested, but in response, there were more police officers on the school grounds than usual on Friday morning.

School officials say the incident stemmed from a disagreement in class between two students and was witnessed by a member of the staff.

The student is reportedly being disciplined, but due to privacy concerns officials would not detail the actions against the student.

Parents were notified by the school’s phone alert system that a threat had been made and some parents apparently decided to keep their children home Friday.

Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies and Trenton and New Baden officers responded to the school Thursday.
