MOUNT VERNON — A Wednesday morning house fire on the north side of Mt. Vernon resulted in two occupants being taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to reports, firefighters responded around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday to a home on Warner Avenue.

Upon their arrival, Jefferson Rural firefighters noted a bedroom area of the home was fully ablaze. The flames spread throughout the home, leaving only the walls standing.

The names of the injured occupants and the extent of their injuries have not been released at this time.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
