SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — Severe storms rolled through the region Thursday night. In Centralia 1,500 utility customers were without power when 60 mile per hour winds brought down trees and power lines.
Multiple roads in the area were blocked due to trees and power lines down across the roadway and Kell firefighters responded to a call on Walnut Hill Road where a tree fell and crushed a car owned by a Salem man.
Heavy winds are being blamed for a semi-truck rollover Thursday night on Interstate 64 in Washington County.
According to the Illinois State Police, 65-year-old Brian Johnson, of Montana, was westbound on I-64 at mile post 56 when around 6:4 p.m. Strong winds blew his Freightliner truck onto its side. The semi came to rest across both lanes of the interstate and had to be towed from the scene.
Johnson and his 65-year-old passenger Charles Johnson, also of Montana, were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
A 51-year-old Marion man was injured Thursday night, when according to ISP, his Jeep Grand Cherokee struck a large tree and power line that had fallen across the roadway in Williamson County.
Richard Clemmons Jr. was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
In Franklin County a 45-year-old Royalton woman was injured when strong winds knocked a large tree on top of her parked Honda.
According to ISP, Jackie Stacey had stopped along Illinois Route 149 as heavy rain caused poor visibility. While stopped, a large tree fell on her car, causing damage to the entire front-end of the car, which was towed from the scene.
Stacey was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
