Robbie E. “Shady” Hayes is charged with two counts Class X felony armed violence. Each count is punishable by between 6 and 30 years if convicted.
According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun, Hayes was armed with a knife Saturday night when he was involved in an altercation at the Bluford American Legion.
The victim in the incident was airlifted from a Mt. Vernon hospital to a St. Louis area hospital where he had surgery on a wound to his neck. He’s reportedly in stable condition at this time.
Featherstun says the two charges against Hayes alleged that he committed the armed violence in a public place and that the action caused great bodily damage. He notes that the incident was also captured on video surveillance and that additional charges could be possible.
Hayes has a history of criminal violence, including a 2000 conviction in Wayne County for armed violence.
