EFFINGHAM COUNTY — A 27-year-old Salem man was injured Wednesday morning after colliding with a semi-truck on Interstate 57 in Effingham County.
According to Illinois State Police, Cole M. Lake was driving a 2009 Buick southbound on I-57 near Mason when around 7:22 a.m. he fell asleep.
Lake hit the back of a semi driven by 48-year-old Florian Risilia, of Chicago.
Lake was transported to St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of minor injuries. He was later released and was cited for following too closely.
Lake was involved in a crash Monday on southbound I-57 just north of the Salem exit when he reportedly struck the rear of a van in front of him. He wasn’t injured in that crash, but the two occupants of the van were taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment. Lake was cited in that crash for following too closely as well.
