JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 39-year-old Centralia man is in the Jefferson County Jail after he was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fire earlier this month at a building just outside Mt. Vernon.

Jason Brothers was taken into custody Tuesday by Centralia and Jefferson County Detectives. He is being held on charges of Arson, Burglary and Theft.

Brothers was arrested in connection with the early morning fire August 15 at the old Guaranteed Air Freight building located at 8655 E. IL Hwy 15 outside Mount Vernon.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and Jefferson Fire Protection District personnel responded and the fire was put out.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office was called out to assist in the investigation and it was determined the fire was the result of arson.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that Brothers was the offender in this case.
