FRANKLIN COUNTY — Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel were called out to the Rend Lake Spillway early Thursday morning after receiving a report about a suicidal woman.
Sheriff David Bartoni says two deputies responded just before 1. As they called out for the woman, she jumped from the spillway into the water. The deputies jumped into the water and brought her to safety.
The sheriff says when the woman was removed, she was unresponsive and not breathing. The deputies began a sterna rub trying to get her to respond which was a success. Two other officers arrived on scene and helped carry the woman up the stairs where they placed her in a squad car until Abbott EMS arrived on scene. She was then taken to a local hospital. She was reported to be in stable condition. Her name is not being released.
