POPE COUNTY, Ill. — Three people have died in a head-on crash in Pope County.
According to Illinois State Police, three people were killed Sunday in a crash on Route 34, about a mile north of Williams Road.
An investigation shows that a 2007 Dodge Charger crossed the center line and struck a 2000 Lincoln Limousine head-on.
When authorities arrived, the Charger was fully engulfed in flames. Both the driver of the Charger and the Limousine died at the scene.
One of the nine passengers in the Limousine died at an area hospital. The other eight passengers were taken to area hospitals; their conditions are unknown at this time.
The names of those killed have not yet been released.
An investigation into the crash continues.
