CHICAGO (AP) — The funeral for the first Chicago Police officer to die from complications of the coronavirus looked unlike any such funeral in memory.
Several steps were taken to protect Officer Marco DiFranco’s family and his fellow officers from the virus that causes COVID-19. There were no crowded church or cemetery.
Only the officer’s family attended the service at the funeral home, and only the family and the department’s command staff attended a gravesite service at a suburban cemetery.
Fellow officers of DiFranco, whose death last week was determined to be in the line-of-duty, can join the procession to the cemetery. But must stay in their vehicles.
