CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say a suspect wanted for aggravated assault shot a Chicago police officer in the knee. Police Chief of Operations Fred Waller said officers saw the suspect on the South Side Monday evening and approached him.

Waller says the suspect then pulled out a gun and fired shots. One officer was hit in the knee, and he was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

His name hasn’t been released. Waller says the officers didn’t return gunfire. Two people were taken in for questioning.  The suspect was wanted for an aggravated assault that occurred June 10.
