BEACH PARK, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois man wanted in connection with a 2018 murder was killed when law enforcement officers attempted to arrest him.

The Lake County Sheriff’s spokesman says the 24-year-old black man opened fire as officers approached a Beach Park home Tuesday. Sgt. Christopher Covelli says the man was hit an unknown number of times in return fire and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Covelli says the dead man, who hasn’t been identified, was a suspect in the shooting death in Zion of an 18-year-old. He says others have been arrested in connection with the killing of the teenager.
