JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday for being an Armed Habitual Criminal.

A Jefferson County jury found Lee Davis guilty in a trial that stretched from late March into April on the Class X felony charge.

Davis was arrested by the Mt. Vernon Police Department in June of 2020 after a 911 call was received saying a man was displaying a handgun in the area of 19th Street & Perkins Avenue.

He fled on foot but was soon apprehended and a firearm was located in the area that he was running from law enforcement.

At the time of his arrest, Davis was wanted on several charges including Robbery, Being a Felon in Possession/Use of a weapon, Endangering the Life of a Child, and being and Armed Habitual Criminal.

The original Armed Habitual Criminal charge and other prior charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Davis was previously convicted in 2006 of Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer. He also has prior convictions for Felony Escaping, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Robbery.

Davis was given credit for 348 days served.
