MARION COUNTY — The 37-year-old suspect in Saturday night’s armed robbery of Biggies Café on IL 161 is in the Marion County Jail after being released from a St. Louis area hospital where he had been treated for injuries suffered in a car crash.

According to Lieutenant Andy Garden of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Jarid Walker was arrested Tuesday morning in the 200 block of North Indiana in Salem.

Garden had previously reported that the suspect in the armed robbery had been airlifted from the scene of a crash Monday morning in Ashley that ended his high-speed pursuit with Centralia police.

Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson reported Monday that Biggies had been robbed at gunpoint around 11:30 Saturday night and the suspect fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A Centralia police officer spotted the suspect and vehicle early Monday morning and attempted a traffic stop but the driver fled onto US Highway 51 southbound where speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour.

As the pursuit continued south, the 37-year-old suspect reportedly began tossing cash out the window of the vehicle before crashing at a “T” intersection with Highway 15.

Garden says Walker remains in the Marion County Jail awaiting Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth to file formal charges in the case.

Washington County filed multiple traffic violations against Walker Tuesday morning in connection with the pursuit.
