WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Wednesday vehicle fire at the St. Michael’s Cemetery near Radom in which there was one fatality. The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined.

A neighbor who noticed the vehicle fire notified the sheriff’s office at 1:19 p.m., Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office is receiving assistance in this investigation from the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Washington County Coroner.

The Ashley Fire Department responded to and handled the vehicle fire. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and is ongoing. More details will be released at a later date.
