JACKSON COUNTY — The ex-wife of an IDOT worker found dead following a traffic crash in a construction zone in Jackson County Wednesday morning has been charged in connection with her ex-husband’s death.

Bond has been set at $2 million for 41-year-old Alexis Stallman.

According to the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Alexis Stallman, of Herrin, is accused of stabbing Edward Stallman.

He was involved in a traffic crash around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 127 and Ava Road in Murphysboro.

When Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found Edward Stallman unresponsive. A bystander happened upon the traffic crash and had begun CPR. Stallman was taken to St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the crash turned into a suspected murder due to Stallman’s injuries.

Alexis Stallman is being held in the Jackson County Jail on three counts first-degree murder and felony aggravated domestic battery.
