Margaret M. Samons, 104, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:20 am January 8, 2023 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. She was born May 22, 1918 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Claude N. and Lula E. (Phillips) Piercy. Margaret married James Samons on November 21, 1946 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and he precedes her in death.

Margaret is survived by her nephews and nieces, Stephen Humphrey of Florida, Candace Cary of Centralia, Illinois, Marc Harris and wife, Allison of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Melody Nordin of Mount Vernon, Illinois; numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Marcia Henson of Mount Vernon, Illinois.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Smith, Alma Yeargin, Muriel Wooters, Rosemary Harris, and Harl Piercy.

Mrs. Samons was a lifelong Methodist and was associated with Wesley United Methodist Church.

A private family graveside service will be held.
