James “Jim” Edward Aitken, 71, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, peacefully passed away at 6:40 am April 25, 2023 at Heritage Woods in Mount Vernon.

He was born May 14, 1951 in Mount Vernon to the late William and Jane (Day) Aitken.

Jim is survived by his siblings, Steve Aitken and wife, Janis of Troy, Missouri, Janet Maibach and husband, Tom of Clermont, Florida, Bob Aitken of Maryville, Illinois, Mary Moore and husband, Lee of Dix, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Janna Gordon and husband, Joe, Chris Castner and wife, Lore, Amy Whistler, Christy Jacinto and husband, Rufino, and Nick Jones; as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins.

Jim graduated from Mount Vernon Township High School and worked in the mining industry in previous years. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy hours boating and fishing at Rend Lake. Above all, Jim loved his family and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his great-nephew, William Gordon; and Jim’s beloved canine companion, Benji.
