JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 28-year-old Opdyke man was formally charged Wednesday in Jefferson County Court with two Class X felony child pornography charges.

Anthony H. Powell will likely face additional charges as the case moves forward. He was arrested Monday after an investigation led the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to secure and execute search warrants at Powell’s home.

According to Detective Bobby Wallace with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, one of the seized devices contained a folder that held what appeared to be child pornography produced by Powell. Wallace says the child victim in the photos has been identified and additional charges are likely.

According to her social media page, Powell’s wife worked as an in-home childcare provider. However, it is important to note that the relationship between Powell and his alleged victim has not been released at this time and officials say the investigation is ongoing.

During video court on Wednesday, Judge Jo Beth Weber advised Powell of the Class X felony charges against him and possible punishment if he’s convicted. She also scheduled a Thursday morning detention hearing in the case.
