JEFFERSON COUNTY — A new judge will oversee the case of a 24-year-old Mt. Vernon man, charged in connection with the 2011 fatal shooting of a cab driver. That motion was granted to the defense on Friday in the case of Mark Taylor Jr.

Taylor is one of four men charged in the death of 75-year-old Charles Ellis in a botched robbery attempt in his cab on May 31, 2011.
Defense Attorney Paige Strawn made a motion to substitute for Judge Barry Vaughn, who was assigned to the case because the original judge, Judge David Overstreet can no longer hear circuit court cases due to being assigned as an Appellate Court Justice to the Fifth District Appellate Court.
The case will now be referred to Resident Judge Jo Beth Webber for reassignment. A jury trial in the case is scheduled to begin on April 18th, with the final pre-trial set for March 28th.
