SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois is broke and looks to be getting worse. The legislature’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability yesterday said Illinois looks to be $657 million off its budget expectations for the year.

Lawmakers say losing that much money will punch an even larger hole in the state’s finances. Illinois hasn’t seen a full budget in almost two years and owes more than $12 billion in unpaid bills because of it.
