WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 21-year-old Okawville man was killed in a one-car crash early Monday morning near Addieville.
According to Illinois State Police, Justin Schwankhaus was traveling westbound on Route 160 approximately 3 miles west of Addieville when around 3:13 a.m. his vehicle left the north side of the road for unknown reasons, struck a culvert and flipped three times.
Schwankhaus was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle and died as the result of head and chest injuries due to blunt force trauma. Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger declared Schwankhaus dead at the scene at 3:30 a.m.
The Okawville Fire and Police Departments, Washington County Ambulance Service, Illinois State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the crash.
