ALEXANDER COUNTY — A one-vehicle crash Monday morning in Alexander County resulted in the death of an infant occupant.

Illinois State Police say around 7:10 a.m., 19-year-old Velencia Holloway of Tamms was driving her car south on Illinois 127 north of Trinity Road in the Sandusky area when someone saw the car leaving the roadway to the right and striking a culvert. The car then went airborne and rolled, with Holloway and the infant both being ejected.

Holloway suffered life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene by the Alexander County Coroner.

ISP says neither a seat belt nor a child safety seat were used in the vehicle.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
