FAYETTE COUNTY — A 22-year-old Shobonier man was airlifted Sunday night to a Springfield area hospital after his motorcycle collided with a car in Vandalia.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 6:35 p.m. Sunday, 83-year-old Edith Elliot, of Vandalia, stopped at the intersection of Rock Island and Randolph in Vandalia and then continued northbound through the intersection.

At the same time, a motorcycle being operated by Dustin Mays was traveling west at a high rate of speed on Randolph and over a hillcrest when he struck the passenger side of the Elliot vehicle.

Mays was airlifted from the scene to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield for treatment of injuries.
