FAYETTE COUNTY — A 78-year-old Dixon, Illinois man was killed Friday in a two vehicle crash on U. S. Route 51 just north of Shobonier in Fayette County.

According to the Illinois State Police, James Allen Brown was southbound on Route 51 around 4:21 p.m. Friday when the motor home he was driving crossed the center line, ran across the northbound lane and sideswiped a pickup truck being driven by 72-year-old Lewis Nelson, of Mulberry Grove.

ISP says Brown’s motor home was towing a Fiat passenger car and Nelson’s truck was towing an enclosed trailer.

The initial impact was reportedly on the grassy east, northbound shoulder of the highway with the Brown vehicle rolling over and coming to rest in the east ditch on its top. The Nelson vehicle came to rest in the east ditch.

Brown was extricated from the vehicle and then transported by ambulance to Fayette County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lewis Nelson, and his 69-year-old passenger, Una Nelson, also of Mulberry Grove along with a passenger in the Nelson motor home, 67-year-old Carol A. Brown, of Dixon, were all transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment of injuries.
