VANDALIA — An 11-year-old Vandalia juvenile has been arrested in connection with the damage of more than two dozen headstones in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia.

The majority of the headstones were turned over and some were broken. Illinois State Police Crime Scene was called to the scene to collect evidence and process the scene.

A $1,500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. Fayette County Crime Watchers is offering $750 and the City of Vandalia is offering the other $750.

Thanks to the tips received, police conducted multiple interviews, with one resulting in the arrest of the 11-year-old for Criminal Damage to Property. The Juvenile is currently being held in the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.
