MARION COUNTY — A crash just before 5 p.m. Monday on Interstate 57 in Marion County near the Jefferson County line resulted in one person being airlifted from the scene.

Officials say a fire truck being driven by 60-year-old Reuben Hubbard of Townsend, Georgia left the roadway and drove into the trees after a tire blew out on the truck.

The crash happened at the 107 mile marker and resulted in one of the southbound lanes being closed until the medical chopper was enroute then both lanes were closed.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area if at all possible. Both lanes of the interstate were reopened around 7 p.m.

Kell fire officials say Hubbard was one of two drivers taking the out of service trucks from the Chicago area to Georgia.
