CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago-area woman caught up in a 2015 terrorist attack in Paris is suing Twitter, Facebook and Google for allegedly helping to aid the growth of Islamic State by giving the group access to the social media.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Mandy Palmucci’s attorneys filed the lawsuit last week. She was at a Paris cafe when attackers killed over a dozen people there. The lawsuit says she suffered emotionally. Terrorists killed scores of others elsewhere around Paris the same day.
A Facebook statement says there’s no place on its site for those who engage in or sympathize with terrorism. Twitter and Google didn’t respond to messages from the Sun-Times seeking comment.
Similar lawsuits elsewhere have been dismissed on grounds laws shield online providers from responsibility for content posted by users.
