SPRINGFIELD –For the first time since mid-December, Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and legislative leaders are scheduled to

meet later this week.

Since a series of meetings in December to discuss ways to bridge the budget impasse, no formal discussions have taken place between leadership and the governor. But Rauner says staff members have been in “almost daily communication,” and are promising new proposals to be offered during negotiations this week.

According to Rauner, his administration will be offering more compromises and creative solutions in hopes they’ll arrive at some bipartisan solutions to have a true long-term budget where the interests of taxpayers are protected along with the interests of those inside government. He says they’re working hard on the issue and he believes they’ll get there.

Rauner has declined to offer specifics on what new compromises he will be offering.
