MOUNT VERNON — Investigations into bomb threats made Tuesday, February 17, and Monday, February 22, against two Mt. Vernon schools have resulted in the arrests of two juveniles on charges related to those threats.
According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, at approximately 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, their office was notified of a written bomb threat which had been located on a bathroom wall at the Mt Vernon Township High School. Officers assisted in securing the school and began an investigation into the threat.
But according to a press release published by District Superintendent Mike Smith, the day of the threat, classes were not dismissed until 12:25 that afternoon, despite the threat being received at 8:10 a.m.

On Friday February 19th a 17-year-old female student from Mt Vernon Township High School was arrested on charges of Giving A False Bomb Report resulting from the February 17th threat. The 17-year-old female was processed at the Mt Vernon Police Department and detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a court appearance in Jefferson County.
Then on Monday February 22, at 10:05 a.m., the Mt Vernon Police Department was notified of a written bomb threat which had been located on a bathroom wall at Casey Junior High School. Officers assisted in securing the school and began an investigation into the threat.
A 13-year old student from Casey Junior High was taken into custody by Mt Vernon Police Detectives and transported to the police department. The juvenile was processed at the police department and transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a Jefferson County court date.
The police department is still investigating a written bomb threat which was located in a boy’s bathroom at the Mt Vernon Township High School on Tuesday, February 16th. At this time, no arrests have been made from this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mt Vernon Police Department at 242-2131 or Crimestoppers at 242-6877.
A 15-year-old juvenile male was arrested Friday and taken to the Franklin County Juvenile Justice Center on charges stemming from a Thursday bomb threat made to the Hamilton County Junior/Senior High School that resulted in that facility being evacuated and classes cancelled.
Sesser-Valier has also received a bomb threat requiring classes to be cancelled. Officials received a threat Sunday night at the Franklin County dispatch indicating a bomb threat to the school Monday.
