CHICAGO (AP) — Court records show a federal magistrate in Chicago last year ordered Apple to help federal prosecutors access data on an iPhone in a personal bankruptcy and passport fraud case.

The Chicago Tribune reports U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon filed a November 2015 motion saying law enforcement needed Apple’s help to bypass the passcode to search, extract and copy data from an iPhone 5S owned by Pethinaidu and Parameswari Veluchamy.
Apple denied the order on Dec. 9. Apple declined to comment on the case. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Chicago declined comment on the warrant and court order in the case.
An affidavit filed Nov. 13 said text messages, phone contacts and digital photos might help confirm wrongdoing.
Court records show the Veluchamys were charged with passport fraud last year.
