ODIN — A 16-year-old juvenile male has been arrested in connection with the early Thursday morning break-in at the Casey’s General Store in Odin.

According to Odin Police Chief Joe Nix, the juvenile was arrested for alleged burglary and criminal damage — both felonies — after an investigation and search warrant revealed clothes matching those seen on the burglary suspect in surveillance photos.

Nix says the suspect ditched the hoodie he was wearing in a creek, but it was found, as was an orange cap that was found in a yard.

Other clothes believed worn in the incident were allegedly found with a warranted search of the juvenile’s home in Odin. Police also secured three signed statements from witnesses describing what the juvenile was wearing before the burglary and that those descriptions matched what was seen in the surveillance photos.

Nix says he hasn’t yet recovered the cigarettes and chewing tobacco taken from the Casey’s store in the burglary, but he believes he knows where they are located and expects to recover the items on Friday.

The suspect was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center where he awaits arraignment on formal charges in Marion County Court.

The break-in occured around 2:51 a.m. Thursday morning. The suspect reportedly threw a brick through the glass door of the store to gain entry.
