EFFINGHAM COUNTY — A 37-year-old Edgewood man was killed Sunday morning in a car crash on Illinois 37, just north of Mason.

Jason E. Hazzard was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Illinois State Police say his pickup truck was southbound around 6:15 a.m. Sunday in very foggy conditions.

They say his pickup truck drifted across the center lane and struck the driver’s side of a northbound utility bucket lit truck driven by Michael J. Logan of Farina.

The impact of the collision sent Hazzard’s pickup truck spinning counterclockwise approximately 180 degrees and when it came to rest it was facing north in the northbound lane.

Logan’s truck ran off to the right and traveled more than 80 feet in a ditch.

Hazzard was pronounced dead at the scene. Logan was not injured and declined any medical treatment on scene.

Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.
