Corbin Jones was eventually arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, felony possession or use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of narcotics, and resisting or obstructing an officer.
During the investigation, Jones had denied having a weapon during questioning. After further investigation, authorities found a weapon in the alley and Jones attempted to run from authorities.
He was apprehended a few blocks away. During the chase, it was also discovered that Jones had allegedly disposed of a plastic bag containing bath salts while being pursued.
Jones was released in July 2015 from the Illinois Department of Corrections, after he was convicted in 2012 Effingham County case of manufacture with the intent to deliver cocaine. That same year in Jefferson County Court he was charged with manufacturing and delivery of cocaine near school, park, or public housing, but that charged was amended to a possession of a controlled substance, and he was sentenced probation and a fine for that offense.
In 2011 he was charged with felony aggravated battery of a peace officer, obstruction of justice, and possession of a controlled substance, as well as two counts misdemeanor possession of between 10-30 grams of cannabis. His mental fitness to stand trial was questioned in that case, but an expert ultimately found him fit and he pleaded guilty to the one count of obstruction in exchange for the other charges being dismissed.
He was then sentenced to 1-year in prison.
