MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon police arrested two people early Thursday morning on multiple drug related charges, after an attempt to serve an arrest warrant turned into a lengthy foot chase.
Just after midnight Thursday, officers responded to the 2500 block of College to attempt and serve an arrest warrant on 24-year-old Aaron Sanders.
Sanders was wanted on a Jefferson County warrant charging failure to appear on a charge of manufacture of methamphetamine and on a Franklin County warrant for violation of bail bond.
Sanders fled from officers but was taken into custody after a lengthy foot pursuit. Due to observations at the scene, members of the Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit applied for, and received, a search warrant for the residence at 2506 College.
After executing the search warrant, Aaron Sanders and 44-year-old Rebecca Sanders, were additionally charged with manufacture of meth, possession of meth, iIllegal disposal of meth waste, possession of cannabis and possession of drug equipment.
Aaron Sanders had an additional charge of resisting arrest. A Mt Vernon Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and Illinois State Police Meth Cleanup Team responded to assist with the investigation and cleanup.
