Centralia police arrested Jerry Ezeburiouh Saturday night for allegedly choking a Centralia woman and threatening to kill her.

He was charged in court Monday with Class 2 felony aggravated battery including strangling, Class 4 felony domestic battery with a prior conviction, Class 4 felony unlawful restraint, misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm, criminal damage to property and aggravated assault using a deadly weapon.

Ezeburiouh allegely choked the woman six to seven times Thursday night as well as punched her several times in the face, head, and upper body, reportedly telling her if she called the police he would kill her. She told police she was afraid to leave because her young daughter was in the home.

Police say that to prevent the woman from getting help Friday, Ezeburiouh accompanied her to drop her daughter off at school. However, when she later went to work, she contacted police.

Officers were able to locate Ezeburiouh Saturday and took him into custody.

At the time of his arrest Ezebuiroh was on parole from the Illinois Deparmtent of corrections on a two-year sentence out of Clay County for felony domestic battery.

Ezeburioh denied causing the woman’s injuries or preventing her from leaving the home, saying he found her unconscious in the bathtub Wednesday and that on Friday she would not tell him how she sustained her facial injuries.
