POPE COUNTY — As authorities continue their manhunt in the Shawnee National Forest for a man they say shot a Mahomet Police officer over the weekend, one area of the park has been closed to the public.

The National Forest Service closed the Lusk Creek Wilderness Area Monday, allowing only investigators and firefighters into the area as the search continues for Dracy “Clint” Pendleton.
Illinois State Police are heading up the investigation, but are being assisted by local authorities, as well as federal agents with the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Office.
Authorities have also blocked off roads in the surrounding area since Monday night and are screening motorists.
Pendleton lived in Pope County for a while. The sheriff said he personally arrested him in 2012, and recognized his picture. He says he’s concerned he’ll return to the area as he runs from authorities.
In that case Pendleton was charged with two counts Class 4 felony for aggravated assault with the discharge of a firearm and stalking, as well as misdemeanor aggravated assault of a handicapped or elderly person, and four misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass by remaining on private land.
Police believe Pendleton may seek medical attention, as they believe he may have also been hit in the exchange of gunfire with the Mahomet officer Saturday. A finger, believed to belong to Pendleton was reportedly found at the scene.
