HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities in Hawkins County, Tennessee, are confirming that 9-year-old Carlie Trent was found safe Thursday afternoon.

Carlie’s uncle, Gary Simpson, is in custody on charges related to the young girl’s abduction
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Thursday afternoon its agents were headed to Hawkins County to investigate a possible sighting of Carlie.
Carlie had been missing since last Wednesday. Earlier Thursday, the TBI added Simpson to its Top 10 Most Wanted List.
Simpson is accused of taking Carlie from her school in Rogersville on May 4. He is wanted on an especially aggravated kidnapping charge.
Law enforcement had received thousands of tips and reports of sightings in multiple states across the country. Police in Mt. Vernon, Illinois reported a possible sighting in Jefferson/Washington counties of the van in which Carlie and her uncle were believed to be traveling.
