ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago woman who pleaded guilty last week to involuntary manslaughter in the death of her disabled daughter has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Cook County Judge Joel Greenblatt sentenced 56-year-old Bonnie Liltz of Schaumburg to prison on Wednesday even though the prosecution and defense recommended probation. Greenblatt said what Liltz did wasn’t an act of love, it was a crime.
Liltz read a statement in court last week saying she never felt Courtney was burden, but she had fears about what would happen to her daughter as her own health declined. She said she fed herself and Courtney a combination of prescription drugs.
In May 2015, Liltz and her 28-year-old daughter were found unresponsive in their Schaumburg home. Liltz recovered, but Courtney died days later.
